The first part of Acts 11 is all about Peter having to explain how God completely changed the rules of the game. Peter had a great mentor in rules changing, Jesus. Jesus ate with sinners, touched the lepers, and even healed on the Sabbath. Now Peter, following the example of Jesus, and obeying the words of Jesus had to defend his actions.
“Do not call anything impure that God has made clean” (Acts 11:9)
In the midst of this kind of week and in the midst of reading about Cornelius, Darcy and I got invited to our first cocktail party. I have to admit to you, that I don’t even really know what a cocktail party is. How naive is that! We have another commitment during the same time, so we are not sure if we can make it. It sure sounds like something Jesus might show up for. If they present me with some barrels of water, should I pray for them to turn into chardonnay or champagne! Just kiddin’! My accountablity to my ministerial authority (the Assemblies of God) does not allow me to drink alcohol. But God just may turn some impure people clean, and how fun would that be.
