Divine Risk – Core Values

Life is a risky business. Everyday we take on adventures where the outcome is uncertain. That is how I define risk. Doing something where the outcome is uncertain. Conversations can be risky. Taking on a new job can be risky. Go to college can be risky. Roller coaster riding can be risky.

Most of us hate risk because we have an incredible need try to control the uncontrollable. If I don’t know how someone will respond to a conversation, I usually avoid it. If I don’t know a new job will be successful, I usually stay in the mundane job I am doing.

One of the core values of True Life Church is Divine Risk. God created us to take on this uncertain life with the certainty of faith. Personal failure is not our enemy. Giving up is our enemy. The Bible is full of sensational failures. You can start with Adam & Eve, and move right through the New Testament Church.

This church planting is by far the most risky endeavor I have ever taken. For the first time in my life I could fail magnificently. No minor job change, no rehiring. Catastrophic failure is possible. However, I am assured of this; Not doing what God has asked me to do is far worst than failing. Ask Moses after he struck the rock; Ask Jonah after he was swallowed by the whale.

What is God asking you to do that is risky? Meet your neighbor for the first time? Talk to a parent? Give away something big?
