Sacrificial Giving – Core Values

I am not a natural giver.  That is hard for me to say because some people think Pastors are paid to be the ideal Christians.  I know that I am not a natural giver because my wife, Darcy, is.

Do you play the game: “What would I do with 50 Million Dollars”? Because our extended families live in Oklahoma City & Ft. Wayne, IN, we take long road trips on a fairly regular bases.  I love these trips.  We have a routine of things we talk about on the way, most of which is sacred to us.  It’s less of a routine & more of a pace.  Inevitably we meander the converstation to this question.  “If you had 50 million…”

Darcy immediately starts to give the money away.  What amazes me is that thinking about big giving makes her happy.   I love that in her.  I have no doubt that she has the spiritual gift of giving.  The more she is able to give, the more happy she is.  Whether it is money, time, care, concern.

For the rest of us, giving is sacrifice.  I have to work at being joyful at giving, especially when there is no return.  I have to remind myself of this passage:

        Acts 20:35 (New International Version)

In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak,
remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’ ”

So what would you do with 50 Million?  What would you do with  an extra $20? How about an extra 2 hour a weak?
