I spent a good portion of the day today unplugged at Umstead State Park. Many thanks to the park rangers and volunteers who make Unstead Sate Park an incredible retreat in the midst of a metropolitan environment.
I want to challenge to unplug from your daily routine in order to plug into the voice of the Holy Spirit. It may be getting alone, getting away, riding, running, or laying in a hammock.
Here is how I unplug:
- I slow down. – I feel like I could be away for hours.
- I get away from technology. - I have to get away from email, internet, and blogging.
- I get into nature – Big trees (Umstead Park majors in these) & Big water break my pride
(see Job 38:1-8) - I do more listening than talking. As a teacher, I do my fair amount of talking. Unplugging from the grid requires me to reverse that role.
Whether it is for one hour or one day, make some time in your schedule to unplug from the grid.
