Get Your 2008 Sermon Calendar

For those of you who are just getting to know me, here is a glimpse into my sermon psyche. I love to pray, brainstorm, pray, think, pray, plan, and then pray. I plan out my sermon series a year in advance, and I thought I would give you a glance at the rough draft for the year. Why do I do this?

1. Because Creativity takes time – God’s greatest creativity happen over days (Genesis 1&2). When was the last time you spent six straight days being creative?

2. Because there is a Big Picture – There are two questions I ask when I look at the sermon schedule.

  • Are there any major theological holes?
  • If a person actually followed my teaching, what kind of follower of Christ would they be?

3. Because I can be reactive – Our natural tendency is to be reactive to the world, and then we start preaching about what is in the latest headlines. There will be times to reschedule a sermon and speak about what the Bible says about a current event (the Sunday following 9/11 for example). Planning gives me a gauge in which to “test the spirits” (I John 4:1)

This is a rough draft with several holes, and I will update it from time to time on the blog. If you have any ideas, stories, videos, graphics or thoughts that you think would add to the message please post them on the blog.
